The first four Commandments—to have no other gods, not to worship idols, not to take God’s name in vain, and to keep the Sabbath holy—focus on our relationship to God. These have been violated by people whom Paul describes as ‘the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious’ (v. 9, NIV).
